Asbestos removal company fined for failure to meet standards

As reported by the HSE on 17 Jan 2017, Enviro-Safe Limited a Midlands based licensed asbestos removal company have been fined for poor safety practices and failing to meet the standards required during removal of asbestos containing materials. The company failed to protect employees from the spread of asbestos fibres during the removal work at separate projects. £10m Paid Out in School Asbestos Claims

February 2017

As reported by the BBC Councils in England have paid out a minimum of £10m in compensation to people who developed Asbestos related disease as a result of asbestos exposure in school buildings. 32 councils have settled claims from former teachers, school staff or pupils in the past ten years. General Motors fined following asbestos contamination

July 2016

As reported by safety and health practitioner General Motors UK Ltd has been prosecuted and fined £120,000 after it was discovered that asbestos boarding panels had contaminated a site. GM UK was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after work being undertaken at its North Road, Ellesmere Port site in 2014 exposed contractors to asbestos risks.  READ MORE…

Company director sentenced for waste offences

July 2016

As reported by Environmental agency Nicolas Scarsbrook, director of Stow Skips Limited appeared at Gloucester Crown Court and was disqualified from acting as a company director for 5 years. The court ordered Mr Scarsbrook to pay £35,000 compensation to the landowner and carry out 250 hours of unpaid work. Stow Skips Limited was also fined £20,000.  READ MORE…

Demolition contractor tracked down by private detectives found guilty

May 2016

As reported by the construction enquirer, the HSE received a complaint in March 2014 regarding a former Chesham Community Hospital site in Buckinghamshire. Potential asbestos contamination halt work at construction sites

May 2016

As reported by North Devon Journal , work at two major North Devon construction projects was stopped after soil potentially contaminated with asbestos was transported between the two sites.  Soil imported from the former Fremington Army Camp was suspected to have traces of asbestos. With some of the soil being transported to the nearby Anchorwood Bank development, work was also temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. READ MORE…
